Cary counsels domestic and multinational business entities regarding the antitrust laws of the United States and the competition laws of the European Union and other nations, with a particular focus on merger control issues arising from acquisitions, mergers and investments by operating companies and private equity funds. In addition, Cary counsels the firm’s clients with regard to the antitrust, commercial and other issues arising from domestic and cross-border joint ventures, distribution of licensing agreements and other complex business arrangements.

Cary joined the firm in 1996 as a partner in the Corporate Department and currently serves as its Chairman. He is also co-head of the Antitrust Practice Group and the International Practice Group. Cary began his career as a Trial Attorney with the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice. He has practiced with firms in Washington, D.C., and Boston. Just prior to joining the firm, Cary was a Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of Digital Equipment Corporation.

Representative Clients and Matters

Cary has provided antitrust and merger control advice to a broad array of private equity sponsor clients, including Bain Capital, Silverlake, TH Lee Partners, Audax, Berkshire Partners and The Baupost Group, as well as corporate clients spanning a spectrum of industries including, Biogen Idec, Brooks Automation, Microvision, NSTAR, and The Timberland Company.
