Practice
Edward Kelly is a member of the IP corporate practice, where he and his colleagues provide intellectual property advice, legal opinions and strategies for securing patents, trademarks and copyrights.
Professional Experience
Prior to becoming an attorney, Ed worked as a hardware and software design engineer in the Signal Processing Group of Raytheon. Before Raytheon, he worked at the Benjamin Franklin Institute for Robotics developing mechanical and electrical robotic systems. Prior to that, he worked at the medical electronic division of Hewlett-Packard (now Philips).
Ed works with a number of clients, protecting IP related to drug delivery devices, including insulin pumps and mechanical syringes, microprocessors, systems for semiconductor and MEMs manufacturing, computer network technologies, furniture manufacturing systems, surgical instruments, orthopedic braces, radio-frequency cauterizing catheters, speech recognition systems and scientific instruments. He wrote and prosecuted patents for a Scottish company on breakthrough imaging technology that won the Queen's Award for Enterprise (2008).
He also represents clients during investments, on legal opinions and with licensing.
He has extensive experience before the Board of Appeals at the U.S. Patent Office, and before the examining and opposition division of the European Patent Office.
