Jeanne Curtis is a partner in Ropes & Gray's Intellectual Property Group. Jeanne's practice focuses on litigation related to patents, trade secrets, unfair competition, and antitrust. Jeanne's courtroom experience is extensive. In the past several years alone, Jeanne has had two jury trials and two bench trials, with judgment entered in favor of her clients in each instance. In the same time period, Jeanne has handled multiple Markman hearings and case dispositive oral arguments, again with favorable results for her clients. Jeanne's experience includes a broad spectrum of technologies, including computer hardware and software, e-commerce, financial services, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, consumer products, and telephony.

Representative Clients and Matters

  • Medtronic Minimed, Inc. v. Nova Biomedical Corporation, Inc. et. al.Two-week jury trial. Successfully defended client against claims of trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, unfair competition, and conversion. Technology relating to blood sensors and insulin pumps with which they communicate.
  • Abbott Laboratories v. Becton Dickinson & Co. and Nova Biomedical, Inc.Two-week jury trial. Successfully defended client against patent infringement claims, invalidating the patent-in suit. Technology relating to blood glucose sensors.
  • AstraZeneca v. Faulding Two week bench trial. Successfully prosecuted patent infringement claim in ANDA case involving injectable anesthetics.
  • Purdue Pharma v. EndoThree week bench trial. Established patent infringement in ANDA case involving controlled release opioid analgesics. Finding of unenforceability reversed on appeal. Defeated antitrust counterclaims in subsequent proceeding.
  • Compaq v. eMachines - Obtained summary judgment of infringement of nine patents. Obtained permanent injunction before trial against further infringement of two patents. Settled through mediation two weeks before trial. Technology relating to personal computer subsystems.
