Practice

Jerome Katz has more than 30 years of experience in complex commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation in the United States and abroad. He has appeared before state and federal courts and administrative agencies throughout the United States in a wide variety of cases, including contract, securities, libel, product liability, fraud, pension and reinsurance matters, and in cases often involving cross-border issues.

Professional Experience

Jerry’s matters have included the representation of a leading satellite operator in contract disputes in the U.S., India and elsewhere; an investment bank in a dispute with the IRS and others concerning the availability of tax credits for synthetic fuel plants; another investment bank and a commercial bank in a dispute involving almost a billion dollars in letters of credit; a consumer products company in a jury trial in New York state court concerning a supplemental executive retirement plan; a U.S. insurance company in a dispute with a reinsurance broker over the adequacy of disclosures made to a prospective Italian reinsurer; a large British manufacturing company in the defense of product liability litigation in the U.K. and Ireland; a Mideast bank that wanted to unfreeze assets in the U.S. after the normalization of relations between Libya and the U.S.; two prominent British businessmen in the defense of a suit alleging a real estate fraud in New York; a South African hotel and casino operator in a dispute concerning competitive restraints outside of Africa; a private equity firm in the defense of an indemnification suit arising from the sale of a portfolio company; a life sciences company in the defense of a suit alleging the misappropriation of human DNA; and two separate clients in the prosecution of libel suits arising from defamatory statements on the Internet. He was recently the lead trial counsel for the plaintiff insurance company in a nine-week jury trial in federal court in Philadelphia, in which his client obtained a multi-million-dollar verdict.
