Louis is a patent litigation attorney with extensive trial experience in both federal courts and before the United States International Trade Commission. Louis works with clients in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals and biological drugs, medical devices, chemicals, consumer and electronic products, and telecommunications. Louis has served as lead or co-lead associate on several high-profile matters.

Representative Clients and Matters

  • Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc. v. Wyeth and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (E.D. Texas) – Representing Wyeth and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in patent litigation concerning Refacto®, a drug produced by recombinant DNA technology that is used for the treatment of hemophilia.
  • Wyeth Holdings Corp. et al. v. Sandoz Inc. (D. Del.) – Representing Wyeth in this Hatch-Waxman (ANDA) case concerning Tygacil®, a tetracycline class antibiotic.
  • Gian Biologics, LLC v. Biomet, Inc. (N.D. Ind.) – Representing Biomet in patent litigation involving techniques and centrifugation devices for isolating platelet-rich blood plasma.
  • Shelbyzyme LLC v. Genzyme Corp. (D. Del.) – Representing Genzyme in patent litigation concerning Fabrazyme®, a drug produced by recombinant DNA technology that is used for the treatment of Fabry disease.
  • Lifewatch Services Inc. v. Braemar, Inc. and ECardio Diagnostics, LLC, (N.D. Ill.) – Representing defendants in patent litigation concerning mobile electrocardiogram monitoring and recording devices.
  • In re Certain Wireless Communication System Server Software, etc., (Investigation No. 337-TA-706) – Represented Motorola in an ITC investigation against RIM, relating to multiple patents directed to features of wireless devices. RIM settled with Motorola shortly before the Markman hearing as part of a global settlement of all litigation between Motorora and RIM.
  • Johnson & Johnson and Cordis Corp. v. Boston Scientific et al. (N.D. Cal.) – Represented Johnson & Johnson and Cordis in patent infringement litigation concerning the design and composition of angioplasty catheters. This long-running case involved multiple patents, infringement allegations by both plaintiffs and defendants, and two trials: a one-week bench trial regarding patent priority and a multi-week jury trial involving infringement and validity. After the jury trial, the District Court entered judgment for our client that its asserted patents were valid and infringed, and that Boston Scientific’s asserted patents were invalid.
