Marc Bloostein has been practicing in the Private Client Group since 1989, and has been a partner of the firm since 1997. He focuses on sophisticated estate planning, and his practice includes all aspects of trust and estate administration, advising fiduciaries and beneficiaries and serving as trustee for numerous family trusts. Marc is a member of the firm’s Trust Conference, which is responsible for the investment management of in-house trust accounts.

Professional Experience

In addition to working closely with high net worth individuals, families, entrepreneurs and executives of private and public companies, Marc is a trusted advisor to private equity and hedge fund principals and to their firms. He works with these clients to structure funds to create estate planning opportunities and provides them with strategic advice to address effective wealth transfer, investment and tax alternatives. Marc is recognized for his breadth of experience as an estate planner, as well as for his strong background in estate and gift taxation, charitable trust law and fiduciary law. He regularly provides advice on complicated trust matters, some of which involve high-stakes litigation.

Marc is a frequent writer and lecturer on a variety of estate planning and trust law topics. Recently, Marc spoke about trust reformations and modifications in a program sponsored by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, he addressed the topic of estate planning for private equity professionals at a conference sponsored by Private Equity International, and he chaired a program entitled Drafting for Thoughtful Estate Tax Apportionment for the Boston Bar Association.  Marc is co-author of the annual supplement to Newhall’s Settlement of Estates and Fiduciary Law in Massachusetts, published by Thomson/West and considered the premier work on estate settlement and fiduciary law in Massachusetts. He is also a contributor to Drafting Irrevocable Trusts in Massachusetts, published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. Marc is a member of an ad hoc committee reviewing the Uniform Trust Code as proposed for enactment in Massachusetts; the independent committee includes representatives from private practice, the bench, academia and financial institutions. For the last several years, Marc has brought his experience to bear in coordinating the training program for associates of the Private Client Group.
