Practice

Peter Erichsen rejoined Ropes & Gray as a partner in the Corporate Department in 2007. Peter has extensive knowledge of the governance and compliance challenges of non-profit institutions, having represented organizations in internal and governmental investigations and audits, as well as other critical and highly publicized situations. He also has significant experience with the legal issues facing private foundations and museums, and in managing transactions, including bond offerings and institutional combinations. Peter is co-head of the firm's Colleges & Universities Group and a member of the Health Care Group.

Professional Experience

Before returning to Ropes & Gray, Peter served for six years as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of the J. Paul Getty Trust. The Getty operates two campuses in Los Angeles and an extensive series of worldwide programs through the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Conservation Institute and the Getty Foundation.

Peter previously served for four years as Vice President and General Counsel of the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as chief legal officer of both the University and its four-hospital health system.

Peter left Ropes & Gray in 1993 to serve as a deputy assistant attorney general in the United States Department of Justice. In 1996-97, he was an Associate Counsel to the President of the United States, working in the White House Counsel's office.

During his earlier tenure at Ropes & Gray, Peter was a corporate transactional and securities lawyer. He originally became a partner in 1990.
