Ropes & Gray Elevates Eight to Partnership

Ropes & Gray is pleased to announce eight new partners.

Rajib Chanda focuses on investment management and securities law. His primary focus is on counseling investment advisors and registered investment companies (open-end mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and closed-end funds) on transactional, regulatory and investigative matters. Rajib also has substantial experience in transactions involving investment companies, including mergers and acquisitions of or by investment advisers, as well as experience in counseling foreign and U.S. clients on cross-border transactional and regulatory matters.

Khue V. Hoang focuses her practice on patent litigation directed to a variety of technologies, including electronics, semiconductor processing, process instrumentation, software mailing systems, medical devices, textiles and computer-related technologies.

Jeffrey R. Katz represents private equity funds, investment funds and private companies in a wide range of transactions including dispositions, acquisitions, cross-border investments and joint ventures. Jeff regularly advises portfolio company clients in times of crisis and other major events, helping those clients navigate and manage business risk. Jeff has also guided both activist shareholder and public company clients through hard-fought proxy contests.

William E. Mone represents private equity sponsors, private-equity backed portfolio companies, and other businesses in connection with mergers and acquisitions and equity financings. He also advises on corporate governance and other general corporate matters.

Amanda McGrady Morrison focuses on representing private equity firms in leveraged buyouts, mergers and acquisitions, and other direct investments. In addition, she regularly advises private investment funds in connection with fund formation, investment activities, and other matters.

R. Daniel O'Connor concentrates his practice on securities enforcement matters, internal investigations, and related trial work. A former SEC Attorney and experienced trial lawyer, Dan advises corporations and individuals involved in civil and criminal government enforcement matters and represents entities in complex commercial disputes. He also assists corporate management and directors in conducting internal investigations and addressing sensitive corporate governance issues.

Lucas Rachuba counsels investment funds on structure and start-up issues as well as on ongoing operations, including partnership and corporate tax planning. Lucas regularly advises clients on tax implications of cross-border investments including the application of ECI/FIRPTA and CFC/PFIC regimes, and on financial instrument taxation. A substantial part of his practice is devoted to sponsor/manager compensation issues. In addition, he has frequently represented clients in acquisitions, stock and asset sales, mergers, and partnership recapitalizations.

George B. Raine focuses on regulatory and transactional matters in the investment management industry. His practice includes the representation of U.S. and non-U.S. investment advisors, open- and closed-end investment companies and their trustees, private investment pools, and broker-dealers.
