Practice
Sam Buffone, a litigation partner in the Washington, D.C. office since 1992, specializes in white-collar criminal defense and complex civil cases. He is co-chair of the firm's government enforcement group which represents our clients in both criminal and civil enforcement actions brought by federal and state regulators.
Professional Experience
Sam has represented parties in grand jury and administrative investigations and enforcement actions covering RICO, securities fraud, money laundering, and banking, campaign finance, and mail and wire fraud. Sam's civil experience includes numerous RICO matters, securities actions, and a broad range of commercial disputes.
He also has testified before congressional committees, and has written and lectured extensively on a variety of RICO, money laundering, and Federal Sentencing Guidelines topics. Sam served as Chairman of the Committee on the United States Sentencing Commission of the ABA's Criminal Justice Section and Vice-Chairman of its RICO, Forfeiture, and Civil Remedies Committee. He was founder and chairman of the Practitioners' Advisory Group to the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
