After practicing with a large firm in New York for five years, Ed Joyce joined Ropes & Gray in 1980 and became a partner in the Private Client Group in 1985. He retired as a partner in 2014 and is currently a senior counsel at the firm. Ed serves as trustee of more than 300 in-house trusts. He works closely with investment, tax and other professionals to address the interests of the beneficiaries of those trusts. Ed is well-regarded for his in depth experience and working with diverse families of multiple generations. Ed is also a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
For over 40 years, Ed focused his practice on estate planning, estate settlement and trust administration. He worked with domestic and international high net worth individuals, families with accumulated wealth, private and public company executives and entrepreneurs to address their trust and estate objectives. His practice also involved assisting clients through complex personal circumstances to provide them with advice regarding wealth transfer strategies and specific investment, tax and legal alternatives to meet their unique needs. Ed's practice also involved overall administration of clients' trusts and estates. In particular, he concentrated on effectively guiding clients through the estate settlement process, including probate, tax and postmortem estate planning issues.
