Daniel Martin joined the special situations group of Ropes & Gray’s London office in 2010.

Dan’s practice focuses on advising bank special situations teams and fund creditors on actual and potential strategic investments in distressed debt situations. He has extensive experience with advising creditors, debtors, sponsors and insolvency practitioners on all aspects of restructurings, workouts and formal insolvencies.

Experience

  • Acting for Samos Servicios y Gestiones (now Uro Property Holdings SOCIMI, S.A.) as owner of over 1,100 retail properties let to Banco Santander in Spain, in connection with the restructuring of its €2 billion loan facilities and subsequent MAB listing and securitisation refinancing of its remaining senior debt obligations
  • Acting for Anchorage Capital in connection with the acquisition of New Century Care Group
  • Acting for a group of junior lenders including MV Credit and CVC Credit to Zodiac Marine in connection with the amendment and restatement of its debt facilities
  • Acting for Global Loan Agency Services as incoming Security Agent in connection with the restructuring of the PHS group
  • Advising one of the largest US investment funds on its acquisition of a distressed portfolio of UK car showrooms through a pre-pack insolvency process 
  • Acting for bidders for a number of loan portfolios from major UK banks, including Goldman Sachs European Special Situations Group and TPG Special Situations Partners as successful bidders for the Lundy and Cooper Portfolios from Lloyds Banking Group
  • Acting for Deutsche Bank Trustee Company of the Americas as trustee of euro and dollar denominated notes issued by Codere Finance S.A. in connection with the group’s financial restructuring
  • Acting for certain mezzanine lenders to KCA Deutag Oil Services Group, including funds managed by EIG Management Company, LLC and GoldenTree Asset Management LP, in connection with KCA’s financial restructuring
  • Acting for junior creditors in the debt-for-equity restructuring of the Ainscough Crane Hire Group
  • Acting for Bain Capital Credit and GoldenTree Asset Management, as Euro note purchasers in connection with the issuance of €110 million eight-year senior secured notes that refinanced the debts of Almatis, resulting in the company’s exit from bankruptcy
  • Acting for Dubai International Capital in connection with the restructuring of the Almatis Group through Chapter 11 proceedings
  • Acting for Cinven and Apax as the sponsors of Truvo yellow pages group in connection with its restructuring through a Chapter 11 process
  • Acting for the B2 Lenders to the Four Seasons Healthcare Group in connection with the 2009 restructuring of the Group’s hybrid loan-CMBS capital structure
  • Acting for the resolution committee of Kaupthing Bank h.f. in connection with various defaulting loans to property investment groups
  • Acting for part of a team advising the debtors in the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and Enron Corp. Chapter 11 cases
