Sonya joined Ropes & Gray in 2021 in the San Francisco office as a member of the corporate department, in the intellectual property transactions and data, privacy and cybersecurity practice groups.
Prior to joining Ropes & Gray, Sonya interned at 23andMe, where she assisted the privacy legal team on CCPA and GDPR compliance efforts and building a comprehensive data protection program. She also interned at Roche as a privacy legal intern, where she helped with GDPR compliance, data breach assistance and product counseling. In law school, Sonya was co-president of the Santa Clara Law’s Chiefs in Intellectual Property (IP) student chapter, which focuses on advancing and connecting women in technology, law and policy. Sonya is a Certified Information Privacy Professional, United States (CIPP/US).
Before law school, Sonya was a clinical research coordinator at Stanford Radiation Oncology, where she conducted clinical trials and co-authored seventeen publications in scientific journals. Additionally, she worked at NextBio, a genome sequencing start-up. She completed her undergraduate degree in molecular cell biology.
