Russell E. Barnwell
Russ Barnwell joined the firm in 2017 and works primarily in the firm’s health care group. He assists in the representation of health care and not-for-profit clients on a range of subjects, including regulatory, compliance and enforcement matters, transactions, mergers and affiliations and corporate governance. Russ has advised clients spanning the health care industry, including hospitals, health systems and other provider organizations; medical device manufacturers and distributors; and commercial payors, Medicaid and Medicare managed care plans and other risk-bearing organizations.
Before commencing law practice, Russ served as vice president of the University of Chicago Law School’s student government and was a member of the Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship. Prior to law school, Russ helped coordinate Alabama’s health insurance enrollment efforts during the initial rollout of the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces. Russ graduated summa cum laude from Huntingdon College in 2013, where he was class president and co-authored a white paper that mapped out a medical education pipeline program, which has since been implemented, in order to address deficiencies in rural health care access.
