Associate
Kabya Chaharia joined the London antitrust practice group as an associate in 2022. Prior to joining Ropes & Gray, Kabya worked as an associate in Magic Circle law firms in their London offices.
Kabya advises clients on EU and UK competition and foreign direct investment matters. Kabya has a broad range of experience advising on complex antitrust matters and obtaining multi-jurisdictional merger control and FDI clearances, for clients across a variety of sectors which include big tech, financial services, retail, energy and private equity.
Kabya has undergraduate degrees in Economics and Law, and a Masters' degree from NYU School of Law, New York.
Experience
Experience includes advising:
- Advising Bain Capital on multi-billion dollar investments in strategic targets.
- Advising GIC on minority investments in various targets across Europe.
- Acting for HarbourVest Partners and Lexington Partners in an investment in Insight Partners’ continuation fund, closing with total commitments of $ 1.3 billion.
- Acting for TPG Capital in connection with its:
- $2 billion sale of Immucor to Werfen.
- $500 million acquisition of majority stake in Elite from Thomson Reuters Corp.
- Acting for Mitsubishi UFJ Fund Services, part of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, on its acquisition of a fund management services business.
- Acting for Silver Lake in connection with its $1.46 billion sale of ServiceMax to PTC.
- Acting for Kohlberg & Company and Alacrity Solutions Group in strategic investment from BlackRock Alternatives Long Term Private Capital.
- Acting for Two Sigma Impact in its investment in Milestone Technologies, a global IT services provider, alongside The Halifax Group.
Notable matters prior to joining the firm include advising:
- E.ON on its €43 billion asset swap deal with RWE.
- Philip Morris on its $16 billion public takeover of Swedish Match.
- CVC Capital Partners on its €4.5 billion acquisition of Unilever's global tea business.
- Clayton, Dubilier & Rice on its £2.8 billion public to private takeover bid for UDG Healthcare.
- A Big Tech company on various investigations by antitrust regulatory authorities.
- Louis Dreyfus Company on its multi-billion dollar sale of minority stake to a sovereign wealth fund.
- JD Sports on its acquisition of Footasylum, investigated by the CMA.
- EDF energy in setting up a joint venture for its renewable energy offshore wind farms in the UK.
- Deutsche Börse in relation to a potential acquisition of a foreign exchange electronic trading platform.
- Rio Tinto on its sale of the largest uranium mine in Namibia.
