Ross Chapman joined Ropes & Gray’s asset management practice group in the Washington, D.C. office in 2022. Ross’s practice covers both registered funds and private funds, and has included fund launches, preferred share transactions, and private fundraises. Their work with novel asset classes has included helping to launch one of the first SEC-approved spot bitcoin ETFs. Ross also maintains an active pro bono practice advising on name and gender changes for transgender individuals.
While at Boston University School of Law, Ross served as a judicial intern for the Honorable O. Rogeriee Thompson at the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In addition, Ross was a research and teaching assistant for three professors and served as an editor of the Boston University Law Review, where their note was published in October 2022. They are the recipient of BUSL’s Alumni Academic Achievement Award for the highest cumulative grade point average in the three-year JD program.

- Advising spot bitcoin ETF sponsor through five rounds of SEC comments to win regulatory approval to operate.
- Coordinating a large fund complex’s tenders and issuances of preferred shares through public company filings and shareholder negotiations.
- Assisting a renewable energy private investment firm in launching and fundraising for multiple funds totaling over $1 billion.
- Researching advertising and marketing rules for an investment adviser regarding investor outreach via new media.
- Conducting reviews of prospectuses and annual reports for compliance with SEC rules and accurate, informative disclosure of new information.
