Eugenie Hui is an associate in the real estate practice at Ropes & Gray. She focuses on a variety of cross border real estate transactions, including acquisition and disposition of various types of real property, joint venture projects and real estate limited recourse and secured financings (representing both lenders and borrowers).

Prior to joining the firm, Eugenie trained and qualified as an associate in the Hong Kong office of an international law firm where she worked predominately on cross-border leveraged / acquisition / real estate financing transactions, and subsequently joined the Shanghai office of another leading international law firm where she focused on a variety of real estate cross border transactions.

Experience

  • Represented a leading global bank in a HK$6.6 billion financing for the acquisition of a Grade A office building in Hong Kong.
  • Represented the manager of Spring REIT in a refinancing of a portfolio of 84 commercial properties in the United Kingdom.

The following transactions were completed before joining Ropes & Gray:

  • Represented a Hong Kong-listed company in its sale of a commercial building in Shanghai to a leading global investment management firm.
  • Represented a leading global alternative investment manager in its formation of a joint venture platform with a listed Chinese real estate developer with respect to the development and/or acquisition of industrial properties in Shanghai, as well as the joint venture’s follow-on investments.
  • Represented the real estate investment arm of a Chinese multinational bank in two mezzanine financing transactions to a leading integrated business park and suburban office operator in China.
  • Represented a leading global investment management firm in its disposition of a shopping mall in Chengdu, China to a Singapore-based real estate investment trust.
  • Represented a leading global private equity and alternative investment firm in the formation of a joint venture logistics platform with respect to the development and/or acquisition of logistics properties across China, as well as the joint venture’s follow-on investments.
  • Represented a private equity firm in the disposition of its China logistics property portfolio to a pan-Asian logistics real estate developer, owner and operator.
  • Represented a leading global private equity firm as Hong Kong counsel in a follow-on investment in China-based rental apartment operator’s US$300 million Series C round of financing led by a Chinese financial conglomerate.
  • Represented a leading global private equity and alternative investment firm in the disposition of a commercial property in Shanghai, China.
  • Represented a leading global private equity and alternative investment firm in its US$136 million onshore/offshore financing for the acquisition of a Grade A office building in Shanghai, China.
  • Represented a leading international bank in an onshore/offshore limited recourse acquisition financing of a commercial property in Dalian, China.
  • Represented a leading global private equity and alternative investment firm in an onshore/offshore refinancing of a commercial property in Shanghai, China.
  • Represented a global real estate asset manager in its onshore/offshore financing for the acquisition of a commercial property in Shanghai.
  • Represented a leading global bank in a US$75 million onshore/offshore limited recourse financing of a commercial property in Suzhou, China.
  • Represented a leading international bank in two complex onshore/offshore financing transactions (with intercreditor arrangements) in relation to two properties in Shanghai, China.
