Marta is a technical advisor in Ropes & Gray's intellectual property (IP) litigation and IP transactions practice groups.

Marta draws on her engineering and legal background to assist with strategic counseling regarding IP assets, as well as patent infringement and invalidity disputes in cases before federal district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the International Trade Commission (ITC). Her work spans a variety of technologies, including wireless communications, semiconductors, computer software, network security, consumer electronics, and mechanical devices. Marta has handled matters involving Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) related to 3G and 4G/LTE telecommunication and H.264/AVC video compression standards.

Before transitioning to the legal field, Marta was a hardware engineer working on the development of next generation display and haptic technologies in Silicon Valley. She also conducted research on flexible electronics as a graduate student in Professor Zhenan Bao's lab at Stanford University. She earned a MS in electrical engineering from Stanford, where she was the recipient of a full tuition, merit-based scholarship, the Franklin P. Johnson, Jr. Fellowship, and a Stanford Technology Ventures Program Threshold Venture Fellow. She also earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where her undergraduate thesis on high surface area materials for battery applications was awarded the Peter Griffith Prize for Outstanding Experimental Project. During her time at MIT, she completed internships at Shell Oil Company and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. 

Marta is a registered patent agent with the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
