Gauri Punjabi

Associate

Gauri Punjabi is an associate in Ropes & Gray's employment, executive compensation and employee benefits practice, based in Boston. Gauri is an experienced counselor, assisting clients of different sizes across the life sciences, biotech, medical, financial services, school, and nonprofit industries on complex employment issues including employee hiring, termination, disability and leave accommodation, restrictive covenants, and affirmative action requirements for federal contractors. Gauri also has experience litigating actions on behalf of clients from the agency level through the state and federal courts. Gauri has experience advising clients concerning employment-related risks and liabilities in connection with company acquisitions, sales, and mergers. Prior to joining the firm, Gauri worked in the labor and employment practice of two international law firms.

Gauri is a 2018 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Fellow, and frequently presents on implicit bias and diversity considerations. 

Gauri was recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyers “Rising Star” from 2016-2020 and was named in 2013 to the Lawyers of Color Hot List for the Eastern Region.

Gauri is a past president of the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston and was awarded Member of the Year in 2019 for her service to the organization. She also serves on the Advisory Council for Zoo New England.

  • Advised startup companies in the life sciences, technology, and energy sectors with respect to employee hiring, restrictive covenants, and other employment considerations.*
  • Obtained summary judgment on age discrimination claims for a life sciences company in federal court in Massachusetts.*
  • Conducted and defended depositions of plaintiffs, defendants, company representatives, and third party witnesses in state and federal actions.*
  • Obtained summary judgment on race discrimination claims for a nonprofit organization in federal court in Massachusetts.*
  • Obtained summary judgment on race discrimination claims for a health care provider in federal court in Rhode Island.*
  • Negotiated separation agreements for C-suite executives.*
