Joshua Thomas

Associate

Joshua Thomas joined Ropes & Gray in 2021 as an associate in the tax, employment, and benefits department. He maintains an active pro bono practice assisting low-income taxpayers and advising non-profit entities.

As a summer associate at Ropes & Gray in 2019, Joshua co-authored the winning submission for the Anti-Defamation League’s Summer Associate Research Program, focusing on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and its relationship to hate speech. 

Joshua worked as a judicial extern in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles during law school, where he assisted in a variety of civil litigation matters. He served as an associate editor of the UCLA Law Review, a managing editor of the UCLA Journal of Law and Technology, and co-president of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. He graduated with an emphasis in taxation, and received the prestigious Bruce I. Hochman Award for Excellence in the Study of Tax Law in 2020. His piece “The Taxation of Bobbleheads: How the Sale for Resale Exemption Can Encourage Attendance at Major League Baseball Games” will be published in Volume 28 of The Sports Lawyers Journal in mid-2021.
