Dr. Atiyah Wang is an associate in the intellectual property transactions group. She contributes to diverse matters related to intellectual property, technology and data diligence and counseling for a range of private equity and strategic clients.

Atiyah initially joined Ropes and Gray in 2015 as a technical advisor, primarily in the intellectual property litigation group. She has experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent portfolios, conducting infringement, invalidity, and freedom to operate analyses in a wide range of technological fields, including communications systems and networks, cloud computing, network security, semiconductors, media services and aerospace. She has worked on federal district court and the International Trade Commission patent litigations and post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Prior to joining the firm, Atiyah received her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Columbia University. Her dissertation focused on optimizing optical networking technologies to enable greater Internet bandwidth at lower latency and higher energy-efficiency. Her graduate work was a foundational element for the Center for Integrated Access Networks (“CIAN”), a multi-university research consortium set up by the National Science Foundation to develop an intelligent optical access network by integrating innovative technologies, ranging from the device level to the network level. Through CIAN, Atiyah collaborated with optical networking research groups at Bell Labs, University of Arizona, and University of Southern California. Atiyah also co-founded a start-up company, PICXIE, to evaluate commercialization opportunities for a CIAN developed patented optical monitoring technology, which was selected into the highly competitive Innovation & Entrepreneurship program at the Columbia Business School.
