French President enacts law ratifying UPC Agreement
President François Hollande promulgated the law to ratify the UPC Agreement. The Assemblée Nationale passed the bill on February 13, 2014, and the new law was published in the Official Journal on February 25, 2014. A total of 13 ratifications are needed to officially establish the Unified Patent Court.

The Assemblée Nationale (French Parliament) passed a bill
authorizing the ratification of the UPC Agreement on February 13, 2014. To finalize the ratification, the law must be promulgated by President François Hollande and then published in the Official Journal. France is the first among the three mandatory ratification countries (France, Germany and the United Kingdom) to ratify the Agreement. To date, Austria is the only country to fully ratify the Agreement, and nine EU member states must ratify the Agreement for the UPC to take effect.
