Health Care Teleconference: Navigating International Law, US Law, and Grant Terms in International Sponsored Projects

Sponsored projects, including sponsored research projects, increasingly are funded by both US government agencies and private foundations to be carried out in non-US locations.  Designing, initiating and administering these projects, especially in the university and academic medical center context, can be massively complicated, since they involve such disparate areas of law and practice as employment and labor law, citizenship and residency regulations, financial reporting terms and conditions, auditing programs, intellectual property and foreign government "gag clauses," foreign contract law, sovereign immunity of foreign states, corporate organizations, and insurance and liability concerns.  Ropes & Gray attorneys who have been active in representing universities, medical and public health schools, and academic medical centers on these matters will discuss the problems, pitfalls and solutions in legal review and planning of international sponsored projects.
