On May 3 and 4, Ropes & Gray and the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the ACC Privacy, Data Security, and E-Commerce Committee will host a lunchtime program on “Data Sharing and Licensing: Best Practices and Ongoing Questions” in both San Francisco (May 3) and Palo Alto (May 4). The program will feature health care and privacy counsel Ira Parghi and IP transactions associate Megan Baca, along with Hope Scott, Vice President and Chief Risk & Compliance Officer for BlueShield of California.
Discussion topics will include:
- Trends highlighting the importance of sound data handling practices, including the recent decisions in Mayo, Myriad and Alice that have limited patentable subject matter, increasing the importance and value of proprietary scientific data; and the push towards “big data,” and the rise of privacy and information security concerns in both the clinical care and medical research settings
- Obtaining and using data in a permissible manner, including so-called “secondary” uses of data beyond the original research study
- Considerations for using, transferring and otherwise harnessing the value of data in licensing, and appropriately protecting the data and its value
CLE credit will be available for this program. For additional information or questions, email Julia Wenck. (Julia.wenck@ropesgray.com)
