On February 26, Ropes & Gray, together with the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Art Law and Criminal Justice Sections, will host an event in the firm’s San Francisco office that examines U.S. sanctions and new anti-money laundering legislation, and what they mean for the fine art market.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Christopher Kaltsas, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, and will feature Ropes & Gray anti-corruption and international risk counsel Brendan Hanifin, Georges Lederman of Withersworldwide, and Patricia Pernes of Bonhams Fine Art Auctioneers & Valuers.
Following a discussion of US sanctions and anti-money laundering considerations facing members of the art community in light of recent regulatory and legislative developments, panelists will offer practical guidance on the implementation of policies and procedures to comply and protect against potential violations.
Of note, Hanifin and litigation & enforcement associate Nicole Horowitz recently co-authored “Managing Money Laundering Risk In The Art Trade” for Law360. Horowitz is vice chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Art Law Section.
