On 11/9, Ropes & Gray attorneys hosted part one of the “Name/Image/Likeness Primer for Colleges and Universities.”
Moderated by litigation and enforcement partner, Christopher Conniff, the webinar featured insights from panelists Erica Han, IP transactions counsel, and Evan Gourvitz, IP litigation counsel. During this first session, Chris examined the developing rule changes to allow college athletes to receive compensation for the use of their names, images and likenesses, that various states have passed or proposed legislation on the issue. Evan and Erica then provided in-house counsel, athletic directors and marketing executives with the background and vocabulary they need to navigate the ongoing NCAA debates and prepare for operation in a world where student-athletes can seek and obtain their own sponsors.
On 12/2, Chris, Erica and Evan will continue the discussion with part two of the Name/Image/Likeness Primer for Colleges and Universities, which includes a discussion on terms of sponsorship agreements, social media, group licensing, and compliance considerations.
