Ropes & Gray Hosts First On the Ropes Webinar Examining Corporate Compliance and Colombia’s Business Transparency and Ethics Program

Event
February 25, 2021

On February 24, Ropes & Gray hosted the first On the Ropes webinar, a new Ropes & Gray roundtable series focused on corruption risks and enforcement environments worldwide.

In this inaugural event, anti-corruption and international risk co-chair María González Calvet was joined by Gonzalo Guzman (Global General Counsel - Anti-Corruption & Third Party Compliance) of Unilever, Mariana Jaramillo (Business Integrity Officer for South America) of Unilever, and Ricardo Forero Muñoz (Director) of Brigard Urrutia, for a unique moderated discussion about the importance of implementing a world-class compliance program, with a specific focus on recent guidance provided by regulators in Colombia from an “on the ground” and global perspective.

The panel examined the recently issued Resolution 100-006261 by the Colombian Superintendence of Companies, which defines the new criteria to determine which companies must adopt Programas de Transparencia y Ética Empresarial (Business Transparency and Ethics Programs (“BTEP”)). Panelists also provided a U.S. perspective on corporate compliance programs and related best practices, including the key elements of effective compliance programs, highlights from DOJ’s guidance on the evaluation of corporate compliance programs, and related COVID-19 considerations, while emphasizing why corporate compliance programs should be developed using a global lens.
