Health care partner David Peloquin presented at the U.S. Africa Leaders Summit Science Collaboration panel in Washington D.C. on December 16 assessing the global regulatory environment and the implications for research collaboration with Africa and the U.S.
David discussed the opportunities presented by the proposed European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation for secondary research and the potential complications raised by the lack of full harmonization between the EHDS and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation with respect to the basis for processing health data under each regulation. David also drew comparisons to the Information Blocking Rule in the United States, highlighting some of the challenges that U.S. health care providers and researchers have faced under the Information Blocking Regulation and how similar challenges may be presented by the EHDS.
