Abby Meyer to Speak at Higher Education Taxation Institute Conference in June

Event
June 6, 2025

Abby Meyer, benefits consulting principal in the executive compensation and employee benefits practice, will be participating in a panel discussion at the Higher Education Taxation Institute (HETI) conference in Austin, Texas on June 6.

During the session titled “When Excludable Programs Aren’t Excludable: IRS Audit Defense Planning for Executive Benefits and Other Fringe Benefits,” Abby and her fellow panelists will explore what happens when noncash employee programs that were thought to be excludable from income are not excludable, including big ticket items for senior administrators and faculty and small ticket items that can add up through their volume. They will also discuss how to evaluate programs through the lens of audit defense planning, business use of personal residences, dependent tuition remission, university-provided lodging and meals, travel, business expense reimbursements, and use of gift cards, as well as potential legislative changes that may be coming in these areas.

The HETI conference provides a unique forum for college and university tax professionals from around the country to examine and discuss federal tax issues and compliance, as well as legislative, judicial, regulatory, and administrative changes affecting colleges and universities.
