Weekly highlights of what’s happening at Ropes & Gray:
- Virgin Media, advised by Ropes & Gray lawyers in London, employed two innovative financings: the first-ever issuance of receivables financing notes (RFNs) and the UK’s first-ever handset securitization. The structure of RFNs allows corporates to term out their accounts payable until the maturity of the RFNs – in this case, eight years.
- Setting its sights on one of the largest independent data-driven marketing companies in the U.S., Advent International, represented by Ropes & Gray, announced it will acquire Ansira Partners from KRG Capital Partners. Lawyers from Ropes & Gray’s Chicago, Boston and New York offices worked on the deal.
- Ropes & Gray illustrated its commitment to diversity by awarding to five law school students the 2017 Ropes & Gray Roscoe Trimmier Jr. Diversity Scholarship. The scholarship honors the memory of Roscoe Trimmier Jr., an accomplished trial lawyer, the firm’s first African-American partner and a pioneering leader of the firm’s diversity efforts.
- Chicago partner Laura Hoey also was feted this week. Ms. Hoey was named one of Chicago’s top lawyers under the age of 40 by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. “With an impressive track record of courtroom successes as a government enforcement partner at Ropes & Gray and during her time as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, it's no surprise that Laura Hoey's peers call her the ‘go-to’ lawyer in Chicago for defending healthcare fraud cases for individual executives and some of the largest and most successful healthcare and life sciences companies,” the publication wrote.

On November 9 and 10, the FDA held a public hearing to obtain input on manufacturer communications involving unapproved uses of approved or cleared medical products. In this new podcast, Doug Hallward-Driemeier, chair of Ropes & Gray’s appellate & Supreme Court practice, moderates a discussion with life sciences partner Kellie Combs and senior counsel Alan Bennett about the FDA’s open hearings regarding off-label communications.
