A statement from Chair R. Bradford Malt and Managing Partner David C. Chapin
In the aftermath of the demonstration of hate and intolerance in Charlottesville, and with more rallies planned for this weekend, it is important to reaffirm that diversity, equality and inclusion are values that we at Ropes & Gray hold dear. Diversity makes us stronger, and we cherish a community inclusive of all ethnicities, races, nationalities, religions, genders and sexual orientations, where everyone is treated equally and with respect. Acts of violence and hatred have no place in our society.
Expressions of hate are deeply upsetting and serve as painful reminders that the journey toward peace and equality is far from over. But these occurrences also present an opportunity to reflect on the firm’s core values, and the importance of our pro bono and charitable work for social justice and human rights, such as our advocacy for marriage equality, our assistance to travelers in airports in the aftermath of the travel ban, and our efforts to help individuals obtain documentation that reflects their gender identity.
We are proud of the firm’s long history of fighting for issues of equality and justice. Now is the time to redouble our efforts, both individually and as a firm, to create a more inclusive workplace and society.
