Health care partner Michael Lampert co-authored a Sept. 11 article in Bloomberg Law’s Health Law & Business that examined a proposed rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that would revise the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) for accountable care organizations.
The co-authors explain that the proposed revision modified the participation options available to address what CMS has characterized as weak risk incentives in the current MSSP program, and to encourage more ACO participation in one of the risk models. Changes include updates to the repayment mechanism and benchmarking methodology, greater flexibility for ACOs, enhanced beneficiary engagement and interoperability criterion.
