Asset management partner Melissa Bender (San Francisco) discussed cryptocurrency investments in an article published on August 1 in Financial Advisor.
Ms. Bender explains that a challenge for registered investment advisors who might want to invest in digital currencies for clients is the custody rule. Since other traditional custodians are not in the cryptocurrency space, that leaves financial advisors with more limited options including the possibility of having to self-custody and the risks that come with that.
