There are more than 19 million military veterans in the United States, many of whom face physical and emotional barriers due to injury or disability incurred during their service. To help disabled veterans on their journey to recovery, Ropes & Gray supports the efforts of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, an organization that is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled veterans and active military personnel through fly fishing, education and outings.

On Oct. 23, Ropes & Gray served as presenting sponsor of the organization’s third annual “Healing on the Fly – Boston” gala, a special evening designed to support the organization’s mission. Private equity transactions partner Michael Roh (Boston) offered welcome remarks, noting the special partnership between Ropes & Gray and Project Healing Waters. “Today, Project Healing Waters is a recognized leader in providing support, compassion and healing to thousands who have honorably served our nation,” said Mr. Roh. “To those who have put their lives on the line and have sacrificed so much to protect us, we are dedicated to you and your recovery.”

Founded in 2005, Project Healing Waters has become a recognized leader in innovative recreational therapy. Last year alone, more than 309,000 hours were donated by more than 4,000 Project Healing Waters volunteers, enabling more than 8,300 disabled veterans and active military personnel to participate in the organization’s program activities.

Ropes & Gray’s partnership with Project Healing Waters is part of the firm’s longstanding commitment to serving the needs of veterans. Ropes & Gray attorneys have devoted many pro bono hours assisting veterans and their families in areas such as service-connected disability benefits appeals, discharge upgrades, securing U.S. citizenship, estate planning and comprehensive business support.
