Attorney Srish Khakurel has been selected as a recipient of a fellowship sponsored by Ropes & Gray and hosted by Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR), a Boston-based legal non-profit that specializes in civil rights impact litigation.
Srish is a 2019 graduate of Boston College Law School, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, where he served as a senior editor of the Boston College Law Review, and also a staff writer. During law school, Srish also worked as a judicial intern at the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and as a student advocate at his law school’s Civil Litigation Clinic. He received his undergraduate degree from Trinity College, Phi Beta Kappa and was named a President’s Fellow of International Studies. At LCR, Srish will work with attorneys focused on upholding civil rights and furthering racial justice and also the rights of immigrants.
“LCR is making a positive and lasting impact to protect and advance the rights of minority communities in this country,” he said. “Their work inspired me to pursue the fellowship.”
Ropes & Gray and Lawyers for Civil Rights have, together, pursued high-profile litigation to ensure that municipal elections in Lowell, Mass. no longer illegally dilute the vote of communities of color, and to ensure voters in Massachusetts could cast ballots by mail during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ropes & Gray and Lawyers for Civil Rights also created the COVID Relief Coalition, enabling small businesses and nonprofits to learn about and apply for emergency loans and other sources of relief in response to the pandemic. The Coalition also connects eligible small businesses and nonprofits to free legal support by pro bono partners.
