“The rule as proposed will put CFOs on the hot seat and make them accountable for detailed climate risk disclosures,” partner and global head of the ESG, CSR and Business and Human Rights practice Michael Littenberg told the Financial Times in an article titled "SEC climate proposal has finance chiefs ‘in the hot seat’". The proposal makes finance chiefs liable for the accuracy of carbon emission statements which Michael says will be a complex and costly undertaking.
