Ropes & Gray has awarded scholarships – comprising £20,000 bursaries, long-term mentoring, and vacation placements – to two students who participated in the inaugural BRidge to the City social mobility programme.
BRidge to the City is a new social mobility scholarship programme set up by Ropes & Gray partnering with SEO London. The programme – which took place this summer – offered 12 first-year university students the opportunity to explore a career in law, compliance, finance, and technology.
The programme was delivered in partnership with Bloomberg’s Legal and Compliance department’s Pro Bono Programme. In addition to the two inaugural scholarship winners (one joining Ropes & Gray’s vacation scheme, and the other joining Bloomberg’s summer internship programme), two other students have also won vacation scheme places at Ropes & Gray.
The students described the programme, which featured panel and networking events, as well as a variety of masterclasses, as “an invaluable experience” and “an amazing opportunity to gain insight into the various sectors within corporate law”. Others appreciated “the absolute fortune in meeting bright and talented individuals” through the programme.
Lisa Kaltenbrunner, a counsel at Ropes & Gray, said: “We offer our congratulations to our two BRidge to the City winning scholars, but we are immensely proud of the entire cohort. The quality of the talent the scheme attracted was beyond our wildest expectations and we are excited to watch them thrive in the future.”
