This week, the SEC will vote on an update to the “Names Rule” to address changes in the fund industry and compliance practices. The Rule is a core investor protection that helps ensure a fund’s name accurately reflects the fund’s investments and risks, and an important marketing tool for funds. The Rule would, for the first time, set a firm deadline for funds that fall out of compliance to get back to the 80 per cent threshold within 30 days.
Asset management partner George Raine told the Financial Times that, “markets can be dislocated for more than 30 days.”
“The expectation that you have to sell into a bad market and buy other things you don’t want is completely inefficient,” George said.
