Ropes & Gray advised pro bono client Maine Mountain Collaborative, a coalition of statewide, regional and national conservation and forestry organizations, in establishing a new Exemplary Forest Investment Fund initiative that involves raising private funds that aim to generate both environmental and financial returns. The first fund vehicle, managed by newly created Exemplary Forestry Management, a 501(c)(3) whose establishment was supported by Maine Mountain Collaborative and New England Forestry Foundation and Quantified Ventures, has completed its first acquisition, purchasing the 3,000-acre Scammon Ridge Headwaters forestland in Greenville, Maine. The Exemplary Forest Investment Fund initiative aims to eventually own and manage 100,000 acres of Maine forest by utilizing the exemplary forestry approach.
