The Recorder published a Q&A interview with strategic transactions counsel Emily Karlberg on Oct. 7 in recognition of her winning a California Legal Award in the “Women Leaders in Tech Law” category.
Emily brings to Ropes & Gray a deep understanding of complex technology transactions with a specialty focus on carve-outs. She leads clients and their business and operations teams through the restructuring of assets, integration planning and commercial arrangements.
Emily recently advised TPG Capital and DIRECTV in DIRECTV’s carve-out acquisition of EchoStar’s video distribution business, DISH, including DISH TV and Sling TV, through a debt exchange transaction. She also was part of the team representing TPG in an agreement to acquire from AT&T the remaining 70% stake in DIRECTV that it does not already own.
In the Q&A, Emily discussed her proudest professional achievement, her advice to women starting out in tech law, and the organization and platform that have helped her grow and promote the accomplishments of women in the field. The Recorder is published by ALM/Law.com.
