In a Responsible Investor article, partner Michael Littenberg, global head of the firm’s ESG, CSR and Business & Human Rights practice, discussed the post-election U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approach to ESG shareholder proposals.
During the first Trump administration, the SEC allowed companies to exclude shareholder proposals on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
Michael notes that regardless of the details, he expects to see an SEC in the second Trump administration which is more amenable to companies excluding ESG shareholder proposals.
