Ropes & Gray advised Qorvo, a provider of core technologies for radio frequency solutions, in the sale of its United Silicon Carbide subsidiary and the silicon carbide junction field-effect transistor (SiC JFET) technology business to sensing technology firm onsemi for $115 million in cash. The transaction was announced on December 9. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025.
Qorvo’s industry leading SiC JFETs technology results in faster development, reduced energy consumption and lower system costs, that provide value to power supply designers and artificial intelligence data center operators. As AI workloads become more complex and energy intensive, SiC JFETs that deliver high energy efficiency and can handle high voltages will increase.
Qorvo provides radio frequency and power technologies that include advanced wireless devices and wireless networks, defense and aerospace communications, cloud computing, the Internet-of-Things and power management markets.
