Litigation & enforcement partner Ryan Rohlfsen provided commentary for an article in Anti-Corruption Report which highlights the ongoing and increasing cooperation among international anti-corruption enforcers.
Ryan emphasized the importance of these relationships, stating, “The DOJ has worked hard to build up long-term relationships with a number of countries around the world.” He noted that these relationships are critical for both the DOJ and their counterparts to bring cases involving cross-border corruption and other misconduct.
Ryan also commented on the resilience of international cooperation amidst changing political landscapes, observing, “While there may be ebbs and flows in cooperation based on what cases are active, international relationships are often at the prosecutor level and are typically not political.” He added, “International cooperation amongst enforcement authorities will continue to play a significant role even with a change in administration, as the relationships that have developed have tended to be at the rank-and-file level.”
