In an article for PERE Credit, asset management partner Eric Requenez discusses the current environment for real estate fundraising.
“We have seen an uptick in demand in the first half of the year from clients looking into new products, but generally it is taking a bit longer to get to both a first and final closing,” Eric said.
While institutional investors continue to be dominant participants in real estate private equity funds, more managers are expected to seek to raise capital from wealth and retail channels. “We’re seeing more demand from that group and we’re also seeing some of the more established managers doing more in that market,” Eric said. “I think the rest of the market will move in that direction, both for real estate equity and credit.”
