In a Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance article, attorneys examined a recent announcement that the US and European Union have agreed on a Framework on an Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair and Balanced Trade. The Framework Agreement expands upon earlier official statements on the US-EU trade deal and is intended as a first step in a process to improve market access and increase the US-EU trade and investment relationship. The authors note that four paragraphs of the Framework Agreement specifically intersect with EU environmental, social, governance – corporate social responsibility-related requirements that impact US-based multinationals.
The article was authored by partner Michael Littenberg, global head of the firm’s ESG, CSR and Business and Human Rights compliance practice, capital markets counsel Marc Rotter, and ESG, CSR and business and human rights compliance associates Samantha Elliott, Kelley Murphy and Peter Witschi.
