For the second year in a row, Law360, the online outlet for legal news and analysis, named Ropes & Gray one of the nation’s top five leading securities litigation practices for 2011.
Law360 editors recognized Ropes & Gray’s securities litigation practice for “racking up a series of significant wins in 2011,” and said the firm made “major waves in securities litigation last year.”
Among the cases cited were Ropes & Gray’s successful representations of:
- TPG Capital LP and J.Crew Group Inc. in shareholder litigation challenging TPG’s $3 billion acquisition of the clothing company resulting in a favorable settlement in September.
- Carter’s Inc. in a shareholder suit accusing the children’s clothing maker of defrauding investors by adjusting financial statements. A federal judge in Georgia dismissed the case in March, saying the shareholders failed to make sufficient allegations the company intentionally committed fraud.
- CBRE Realty Finance Inc. in a shareholder class action challenging the company’s initial public offering. In July, the Second Circuit affirmed a dismissal in favor of CBRE Realty Finance.
“We are absolutely aggressive litigators,” Randy Bodner, head of Ropes & Gray’s securities litigation group, told Law360. “We aren’t unreasonable, but we don’t do rolling over for plaintiff’s lawyers just as the cost of doing business.”
