The Daily Journal named IP litigation partner Jim Davis a “Top Intellectual Property Lawyer in California” for the fourth consecutive year. His accomplishments, including his work for Samsung Electronics, SAP SE., and his success representing Emerson Electric in a series of wins in a 15-patent litigation against SIPCO, were profiled in an April 20 feature article.
Jim was recognized for defending Emerson Electric against allegations that its wireless mesh network and gateway products infringe patents belonging to non-practicing entity SIPCO. This includes more than a dozen legal battles with SIPCO at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, several times at the federal appellate courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission and even a win at the U.S. Supreme Court.
The SCOTUS ruling led to a revised decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit denying itself the authority to review PTAB decisions to hear challenges of patents as covered business methods.
The Daily Journal list was compiled from hundreds of nominations submitted by lawyers statewide, with the honorees selected by editors based on the impact of their work in intellectual property.
