For the tenth consecutive year, Ropes & Gray has ranked among the top three firms on The American Lawyer’s A-List, once again earning the No. 2 position in the 2026 report.
The A-List is The American Lawyer’s premier ranking, recognizing 20 law firms that stand out across key measures of excellence, including financial performance, associate satisfaction, pro bono commitment, and more. Ropes & Gray’s sustained position at the top of the A-List reflects the firm’s commitment to delivering exceptional legal counsel and client service, fostering a supportive and collaborative culture, and making a meaningful impact in the communities where its people live and work.
Ropes & Gray Chair Julie Jones emphasized that while ongoing disruption including AI demands that leaders stay agile and reprioritize around the unexpected, it doesn't redefine excellence. Instead, she noted, it reinforces what excellence requires: the firms that thrive on the A-List are those that double down on their core strengths precisely when the landscape shifts most.
The recognition reflects Ropes & Gray’s longstanding commitment to pro bono service. This year's report marked the fourth consecutive year in which Ropes & Gray lawyers contributed more than 100,000 pro bono hours, placing the firm among the top ten for total pro bono hours.
