Turbulence Ahead For Airline Deal?

Ropes & Gray partner Mark Popofsky, co-head of the firm's antitrust practice, was quoted in The Chicago Tribune regarding the proposed merger of United Airlines and Continental.  Describing how this deal may face more of a challenge than the 2008 Delta and Northwest airline merger, in which the companies successfully argued that low-cost carriers would ensure that airfare pricing would remain competitive, Popofsky said: "That argument succeeded with the last administration.  The government is probably going to take a harder look this time around."
