James Douglas Joins the London Restructuring Team at Ropes & Gray

November 3, 2010

Ropes & Gray today announced that James Douglas has joined the firm in its business restructuring and complex business litigation practices. Douglas is the latest in a series of high level appointments since the firm launched its London office in January. He joins Ropes & Gray from Minter Ellison Rudd Watts in New Zealand, having previously been a partner in the London offices of Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft.

Douglas has been involved in many of the most important restructuring cases of the past decade, including TXU Europe, MyTravel, and Schefenacker. His work has covered both contentious and non-contentious aspects of these cases.

Douglas’s appointment follows Ropes & Gray’s retention in relation to a number of current and recent restructurings, including KCA Deutag, Almatis, and Zodiac Marine.

The opening of Ropes & Gray’s London office marked the firm’s fourth move into key geographic markets in the past two years, following openings in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Chicago. Ropes & Gray’s worldwide footprint, with about 1,000 lawyers, allows it to serve clients from bases in major world private equity and finance centres and to provide global execution of transactions.
