Health care partner Thomas Bulleit (Washington, D.C.) was quoted in a Sept. 8 Modern Healthcare article titled “Federal probe of doc-owned distributorship yields False Claims suit.” The article reviewed a False Claims Act case filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), on Sept. 8, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The DOJ brought the case against Reliance Medical Systems, two related distributors (Apex Medical Technologies and Kronos Spinal Technologies), and several of their physician owners, based on the theory that investment returns from these physician-owned distributors were unlawful kickbacks.
